At Holmwood Nursery we offer a wide range of educational opportunities tailored to each child’s abilities and provide experiences that enrich each child’s personal, social, emotional, physical, intellectual, cognitive and creative abilities, all underpinned by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Each day we are unsure of where the day will go, or exactly what learning will happen, resulting in a sense of excitement and anticipation throughout the day. Children’s interests are very much ‘in the moment’ and this is why at Holmwood Nursery we very much teach in the moment and our planning is often spontaneous.
Planning in the moment is all about capturing the moment for children to progress based on what the children are already deeply involved in. From this we are able to see the ‘teachable moment’ from the child’s perspective and know when to intervene and when to stand back and observe. It is all about capturing the moment of engagement and running with it to make sure the children progress.
Children are active learners; children learn best through play and through providing the children with a wide range of activities and experiences. At 3 and 4 years old children begin to experience and learn about the world around them and how to cope with life’s many excitements and challenges.
Our Daily Routine
8.30am
We say our hellos, we wash our hands and then we get straight in to playing. The children have access to both the inside and outside areas.
9.00am
We come together as a class and do our stretches to help us get ready for the day ahead. We will then sit and have our class register and class discussions.
9.30am
We all disperse into our inside and outside areas to choose what we would like to play with. We have our snack available for children to help themselves to independently throughout the morning.

We come together as a class once more for a story or another focused activity such as Read Write Inc (phonics) or singing.
